Book Review: The Girl on the Train (2016) – How many knocks does it take to bring you down?

(Dokumentasi pribadi)

First book of 2016 (better start late than never kan). Finished it last night, over the weekend, karena terjemahan.

I got this book from a fellow book reader in a book exchange program. Was excited because I had just read the sample of this book on Kindle before this came to my door. (Thanks whoever you are!)

First of all, I don’t know why they call this thriller. For me it’s more like psychological drama. The twist just doesn’t work out for me. So cliché, so typical, so anti-climax. The book waste a lot of time exploring the main character’s mental breakdown but it didn’t actually go anywhere. We were dragged along hurriedly at the end, and it ain’t a smooth one.

All the characters are devastating, hate-able, you can’t actually root for or even sympathise with any of them. But that’s why you can’t put this book down easily. The more you see they destroy themselves, the more you wanna see how it would end.

K, 3 out of 5 stars.
